Dopamine is a big player in our emotions and hormones. How we feel-mood swings.(happy chemical) Depression affects a lot of which estimates 1/3 people struggling with depression. More often people use this statement "i am depressed today"

We use alot of terms without actually knowing what they mean, and depression is honestly something that's considered a mood disorder. That just means that our mood is depressed, as in, it’s a down mood.

When we are depressed we may feel tired, we may feel achey, we may not enjoy. You don’t enjoy the things you use to enjoy doing before. So those are the common symptoms of depression. As well as even that feeling at night, when we can’t shut our brain off. And the cycle just goes on.

Myths and misconceptions about depression are a lot out there and it's important we talk about it and let people know what the truth really is.

• - People suffering with depression are just really sad. The truth is that some of us may experience depression as simply sadness, but a lot of us may experience it as agitation, irritability, change in appetite, difficult being sleepy, or sleeping too much. There are many symptoms when it comes to depression.

• - That people who are depressed can just snap out of it. That is, i would say one of the most common that i hear.

• - It's obvious when someone is depressed. I know a lot of people who are like, "well they don't look depressed! They don't act depressed. We may have times wehere we feel completely fine. And a lot of people fake because they don't want to talk about it. So they just put a happy face and pretend everything's okay even though they really feel horrible.

• - There is just one type of depression - it's options are. There is major depressive disorder, there is dysthymia, while there is a low-grade depression lasting for at least 2 year's, or a year if you'r an adolescent and there are a lot of different things, and we can keep going bereavement if we've lost someone and it last's a little longer and we still have a little bit of a depressive mood.

• - Anti-depressants jus fix it. "go to the doctor, have them put you on anti-depressants, which will make you feel better". Well that is not the case, yes, for some people , if they're already in psychotherapy. Seeing a therapist like my self, and they go to their psychiatrist and they get on anti-depressant and are working on behavioral techniques, it can "fix it".(if you want to use that term). But for many of us that's not enough. And there are a lot of components that go into us making us feel depressed.

What is ANXIETY

The first part of anxiety disorders that i want to talk about - generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in short. GAD is an excessive anxiety and worry occurring more days than not for a period of at least six months. The best way i can think of presenting it is, when i have a patient who suffers from anxiety all they do is worry about what people think of them. And it happens a lot. People who have gad worry so much about everything in their life. Now, many of you talk about suffering from social anxiety and from what i have read in the DSM, social anxiety isn’t actually a diagnosis under the anxiety disorder. It would be called social phobia. And, they say the essential feature of social phobia is marked as persistent fear of social or preference situation, in which embarrassment may occur. I find this to be most prevalent with my teen patients, and my young patients. Because we're in social situations a lot, and it can be like we may be in a new high school, and we are already nervous and so then we start to worry about what everybody thinks, and we don’t want to feel embarrassed. Anxiety disorder are three times more likely to go to the doctor, and six times more likely than non - sufferers to be hospitalized for psychiatric aliments. Although anxiety disorder describes a group of illness such as GAD, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and phobias. .

People suffering from anxiety disorder talk about their conditions, they often include these descriptions:

• - Unrealistic or excessive worry
• - Exaggerated stress reactions
• - Sleep disturbance
• - Jitteriness
• - Fatigue
• - Dry mouth
• - Trembling
• - Sweating
• - Racing or pounding heart beat

Anxiety disorder is an umbrella term that causes several different forms of common psychiatric disorder characterized by excessive rumination, worrying, uneasiness, apprehension and fear about future uncertainties either based on real or imagined events, which may affect both physical and psychological health.

Misconceptions about anxiety:
The first myth is that anxiety isn't real illness. Everybody feels anxious sometimes. But feeling anxious is not an anxiety disorder. When we have anxiety disorder, it actually impairs our ability to function in our daily life and that is a real thing.

The second myth is that therapy for anxiety is going to take forever. The fact is that CBT - cognitive behavioral therapy is really effective for anxiety disorder and most people feel improvement in their first couple of therapy sessions.

The third common myth is that medication is all that can help us. Everyone has different experience and will have a different path to recovery.

Fourth myth anxiety disorders are not very common. Millions of people suffer from anxiety disorder ans 1 in 5 will suffer from an anxiety disorder within given year.

Myth five: those who suffer from anxiety disorder just need to avoid stressful situations. First of all its impossible to know when things could potentially get stressful.

What we know as therapist and other mental health professionals is that by avoiding things that could potentially be anxiety - provoking or stressful, actually make the anxiety worse because we're not using any tools to help ourselves. Better deal with it or process it.

We're just feeling more anxious about situations and therefore completely block it out. Also, that when we label ourselves as "fragile" we are unable to manage stressful situation. We actually feel worse about our anxiety disorder and it can take longer to recover.

So i would encourage you to get out, go see a therapist and get some tools, so that you can use them in your regular life and if you feel something is going to be stressful , you know that you have the ability to hit it hard.

Individual Therapy for children, adolescents, and adults seeking treatment for childhood abuse, domestic violence, and other related issues.

Counseling is defined as a type of psychology and therapy focused on typical and normal developmental issues as it applies to the human experience. Many people assume that psychology, therapy, and counseling are all the same, and they all have to do with crazy people. That is one of the assumptions I hope to challenge.

• - Grief counseling
